The strait that lies between the city of Portoferraio and the Point of Scarpellini together with the coast that surrounds it have formed the backdrop to many ancient peoples that have left traces of their presence throughout the territory. This limb of the island bears historical witness to Roman, Romanesque, Medici and French settlements.
